A Post a Day July 2014 Number Fifteen

Three Facebook pages on writing, a post a day on each for the month of July, combined and posted here as well

Small Stone, July 2014, Fifteenth

Stop. Listen. What's That Sound?

We have had storms, rolling and flashing and pushing through. The calico cat, resting (as is her habit) on my lap, snaps to attention. She hears the next wave of thunder before we do, and starts to growl, as if to say to the thunder, "Stay away! Enough already!" Then she darts off to hide, not being a fan of summer storms. I think the thunder hurts her ears.

July Writing Project - A Poem a Day - Day Fifteen

Messages abound in life you know
Signposts along the way
Pointing out the direction one can go
When traveling - night or day

Each arrives in varied guise and hue
Be they Mineral - Animal – Vegetable
Though not lined up in visible queue
Be assured their guidance is tenable

Because life is not all neat and tidy
(Some have called it a real hot mess)
The cipher can call for one to be wily
Toiling hard yet with a finesse

Life is hard I have heard it said
Most often by the elderly
Yet living will trump being dead
(Life still contains lethargy)

Messages are at each twist and turn
But they are quite benign
Trick or truth we each must learn
It's part of the grand design

We cannot go back and choose another
Action or word or deed
The path we travel with sister and brother
Only one way does lead

The burden we carry accumulates then eases
Another of life's curiosities
Time marches on - neither pauses or freezes -
Not for joys or atrocities

Imperfect Ten

striving to be more in the moment is not easy

(This effort at daily noticings, practicing mindfulness, is a noble quest, and not without challenge. I am learning much about myself, and more about the people I cross paths with.)

A Post a Day July 2014 Number Fourteen

Three Facebook pages on writing, a post a day on each for the month of July, combined and posted here as well.

Small Stone, July 2014, Fourteenth

In the wee hours, just before daybreak - Grandmother Moon  still keeping watch.

July Writing Project - A Poem a Day - Day Fourteen

on these days
when the raw - unfiltered -
grit of life
rubs the salt of tears into
the shredded heart
that was on my sleeve

(now how did it end up there?)

your quiet gaze
unassuming ways
are a cooling - refreshing -
balm

your gentle caress when my
body is curled up in distress
unwinds the tensions - fears -
wisp away into the air

this is why love
does not say enough
of the how, the why
we are us

A Post a Day July 2014 Number Thirteen

Three Facebook pages on writing, a post a day on each for the month of July, combined and posted here as well.

Small Stone, July 2014, Thirteenth

Too many thoughts to keep me awake. No emergency shutoff for my brain. Somebody, please get to work on inventing one? I bet you could make the proverbial fortune ...

July Writing Project - A Poem a Day - Day Thirteen

reverence in the night

moonlight drifts

down

through the clear night sky
dappled by branch
then leaf

sinks
into
water

ripples
waving goodbye
stream undulates

calm

quiet

time
pauses (almost)

captive moment
reverence in the night

Thirteenth  Noticing , July 2014

We sat and talked until 3AM, at a small table under the canopy at a closed cafe, with our cups of tea growing tepid ... my friend and I ... do men do this too, or is it a woman thing?

Sounds in the night do not awaken me -
(high percentage of hearing loss in my left ear from multiple infections as a child)
I tune out the intrusions by sleeping on my right side!

July Writing Project - A poem a Day - Day Twelve

On Dreaming

In sleep I journey near and far
To backyard shrine and distant star

I take in stride each sight and sound
Many sought after adventures abound

No limits exist: body left in my bed,
Any conveyance is found in my head

I speak any tongue and hear them as well
Marvelling at exotic taste and smell

When I return, awake and  refreshed
I find deep concerns have been addressed

Debate there may be  by scholar and scribe
Differing beliefs by nations or tribe

But no other tenet I find I subscribe
Than that which in my own heart does abide

These grand adventures and serious queries
All my souls yearnings and personal theories

Are fulfilled and explored - not restrained
All of life's grand mysteries are explained

At night when in slumber I take to my bed
And escape to that universe contained in my head

Awakened
with resolve
(and intent)
for a good day
to craft joy
to share beauty
to rest with contentment

We live in
Venn
Diagrams that is

Each soul
whole
yet apart

We intersect
connect
and therein lies

The accelerator
elevator
raising us

The sum greater
than the creator
foretold

A Post a Day July 2014 Number Ten

Three Facebook pages on writing, a post a day on each for the month of July, combined and posted here as well.

Small Stone, July 2014, Tenth

Stop. Listen. What's that sound?

No droning and sputtering machines yet today. Too early this morning for the neighbor to be out and about. The ample rains we received yesterday stretched into the night hours. In the first soft light of the day, fog hangs low and heavy on the myriad shades of green that greet the day, The birds are calling in the sun as the calico cat stands watch from her window perch.

July Writing Project - A Poem a Day - Day Ten

Oh! To write in words sublime
of wonders yet unseen
Oh! To watch from hidden clime
the dance of Fairy Queen

Bluebells  play a lilting song
as spider spins her web
Croaking bullfrog sings along
and clover lies abed

Fireflies string a row of light
To  lead me down the path
Flanked by trees of towering height
I'm met with silvery laugh

How did this unseen land I find?
Twas just outside my door
Within the reach of all mankind
Not on some distant shore

You can travel there I'm sure
You've only to believe
And to feel the fairy's lure
Upon Midsummer's Eve
